Acacia Solar Farm
Project Overview
The Acacia solar project is a 12MW project constructed over 120 acres in Presidio, Texas. The project includes polycrystalline modules on an Array Technologies single-axis tracking system. It is installed on former agricultural land a few miles from the Mexican border. It features a 25-year power purchase agreement with Bryan Texas Utilities.
Project Challenges
Given the location of the project, a few miles from the Mexican border and over 250 miles from El Paso, one the biggest challenges was security. The site required 24-hour surveillance due to the risk of theft and vandalism.
It was also challenging to find and maintain experienced workers, after experiencing significant turnover early in the project. Securing rental equipment and timely material deliveries was also an issue, due to the lack of local vendors.
Solutions
To overcome the talent shortage, we partnered with subcontractors with national coverage. This enabled us to draw from a large pools of workers to properly resource the project.
We anticipated supplier and security issues and consequently placed even more emphasis on generating a detailed schedule and securing reputable partners to support the project from initial mobilisation to project completion.
